Art by Shini

Subhashini, or Shini as she is known by her friends, lives in Malaysia with Kuala Lumpur as home base.  Bringing her natural surroundings of Malaysia and Southeast Asia, to life in her art is her passion.

For Shini, Malaysia and area is a special place where she finds both spiritual renewal and rejuvenation that is rooted in both the natural and cultural experiences of the region.  The region is a crossroad where many of the world's religions come together -- Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and Sikhs, largely living in harmony.

She seeks to weave those aspects and elements of life into her artwork, telling the story of the people, their natural surroundings, and the diverse multicultural region that is Southeast Asia.

At present, she is particularly focused on exploring the interconnection of humanity and the earth, both the flora and the fauna -- of how the natural balance between the earth, flora, and fauna is maintained, is being threatened, and the traditional way of life reconciles them.

Enjoy the beauty of the peacock to reveal your own beauty on the canvas of your mind.

I hear the question upon  lips of many -- What is it to be a colour?

Colour is the touch of the eye, music to the deaf, a word out of the darkness. Because I’ve listened to souls whispering like the susurrus of the wind from book to book and object to object for tens or thousands of years, allow me to say that my touch resembles the touch of angels. Part of me, the serious half, calls out to your vision while the mirthful half sours through the air with your glances.

I’m so fortunate to be green I’m fiery. I’m strong.  I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery air, mountains, trees, people.  I thought, this is what it is to be happy.

I do not conceal myself.   For me, delicacy manifests itself neither in weakness nor in subtlety, but through determination and will.    So, I draw attention to myself. I’m not afraid of other colours, shadows, crowds or even of loneliness.   How wonderful it is to cover a surface that awaits me with my own victorious being!   Wherever I’m spread, I see eyes shine, passions increase, eyebrows rise and heartbeats quicken.    Behold how wonderful it is to live! Behold how wonderful to see.   I am everywhere.    Life begins with and returns to me.   Have faith in what I tell you.
